This Action Tool, created by the Department of Education, is designed to share the key steps you can take this summer to increase access to high-quality summer learning, meals and jobs opportunities in your community. Whether you are a city, nonprofit, school, business or philanthropic leader, you will find examples of how your peers across the country are finding innovative ways to move summer from a time of risk to a time of great reward.
Over the summer many young people and their families lose access to critical supports that keep them safe, healthy and engaged in learning and meaningful work experiences. Studies show that providing summer opportunities, including jobs, and learning, prevent academic regression and divert youth from criminal involvement and reduce violence.
